“To learn is to grow. And Jewish learning gives us the roots to understand our past and the wings to shape our future.”
Religious School

Religious School (K–7th Grade) At Ohr Shalom Religious School, children from Transitional Kindergarten through 7th Grade embark on a joyful and meaningful journey of Jewish learning. Our curriculum blends Hebrew language and literacy, prayer, Jewish holidays and values, and an exploration of Israel and Jewish history—all in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Students learn to read Hebrew, connect with Jewish traditions and mitzvot, and develop a personal relationship with Judaism. Through engaging classroom experiences, music, community-building, and hands-on projects—including Mitzvah initiatives and preparation for B’nai Mitzvah—students grow intellectually, spiritually, and socially. With the guidance of passionate educators and the support of teen leaders (Madrichim) and our Israeli Shinshin, we help children not only learn about Judaism but live it with pride and purpose.

Youth Programs - USY (United Synagogue Youth)

K-6th
Once a month, Right after Religious School, students are invited to continue the fun with our Youth Department.

An engaging, social space where Jewish fun comes to life through games, creative activities, and community-building. Led by a Rosh (head youth leader) and a dedicated team of Madrichim, this program fosters friendships and Jewish identity outside the classroom in a relaxed, playful setting. Each month offers new themed experiences that help students strengthen their connection to Judaism, their peers, and our community, all while having a great time.

Ta’am Torah

Ta’am Torah (Taste of Torah)

Ta’am Torah is our monthly drop-off program for 4-year-olds, designed to give young children a joyful first experience with Jewish learning. In a warm, preschool-style setting, children enjoy 1. hours of engaging activities including stories, songs, crafts, and hands-on exploration of Jewish holidays, values, and traditions. Held once a month on Sunday mornings, Ta’am Torah nurtures curiosity, builds confidence, and helps children begin forming their own connection to Judaism—all while having fun with peers in a safe and loving environment.

Shin Shin

A Shinshin is an Israeli high school graduate who chooses to delay their mandatory military service in order to spend a year volunteering in Jewish communities abroad. The term “Shinshin” is an abbreviation of the Hebrew phrase Shnat Sherut (שנת שירות), meaning “year of service.” During this time, these young emissaries serve as cultural ambassadors, strengthening the connection between Israel and Jewish communities around the world through education, engagement, and meaningful service.

Madrichim

Madrichim (מדריכים) is the Hebrew word for "guides" or "leaders." In Jewish educational and cultural settings, it refers to youth who take on leadership roles, often serving as role models, mentors, and assistants. At Ohr Shalom Religious School, our madrichim are dedicated graduates who return to give back—supporting our students, strengthening our community, and continuing their own Jewish journey by helping the next generation grow in knowledge, identity, and connection.

B’nai Mitzvah

We guide our students on their journey toward becoming B’nai Mitzvah with a deep and holistic approach. Through Hebrew language instruction, Torah and Tefillah (prayer) study, and hands-on learning of Jewish rituals and traditions, we help each child develop the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to step into Jewish adulthood with pride and purpose.
